In 1990, Sheriff Gene L. Wriggelsworth and Delhi Charter Township entered into a contractual agreement to provide police services to the Township that continues to this day. Those police services are provided to 26,000 residents in an area equal to 29 square miles which lies just south of the city of Lansing. Much of the township’s population resides in medium density single family dwellings; however there are areas that range from high density multiple family dwellings to rural farmlands. There are roughly 450 businesses located within Delhi Township.

The staffing of the Delhi Township Division consists of one Lieutenant, in charge of day-to-day operations of the Unit; two Sergeants assigned to road patrol duties; two Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Section; ten Deputies assigned to general patrol duties; one Deputy assigned to the Tri-County Metro Narcotics Squad; one Deputy assigned as a Community Policing Officer; one Deputy assigned as a Community Business Officer; one Deputy assigned as a School Resources Officer; one full time Clerical; one part time Clerical.

Community Policing has always played a major role in law enforcement in the Delhi Township community and has been a very successful program through the years. While the Delhi Township Division has officers assigned to the Community Policing and Community Business officer positions, recently they have added another Community Policing position, the School Resource Officer. This position was created in August of 2011 and is a result of the partnership between the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, Delhi Charter Township and Holt Public Schools.

Like the Community Policing and Community Business officers, the School Resource Officer provides a liaison between law enforcement and the community; however, this time the community is the body of students and staff within the Holt Public Schools. In addition to being the law enforcement liaison to the schools, the School Resources Officer also fulfills the needs of the schools relating to law enforcement.

The Delhi Township Division Offices are open from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday and are located at:
